Yet each of those people retained Rick Singer, a man who claimed that he could help their children get accepted into elite colleges. Although the parents thought they were making a donation to a nonprofit, they unintentionally implicated themselves in serious criminal charges that would expose them to the possibility of many years in federal prison.
